Coeliac Disease

Coeliac disease is a condition affecting the small bowel, damaging the lining and preventing absorption of some vital nutrients and minerals

Coeliac Disease affects about one percent or one in every hundred people. An immune reaction to gluten (proteins in wheat, rye, barley, triticale and oats) is responsible for the inflammation and damage to the small bowel.

Treatment involves following a gluten free diet but knowing where to find gluten is where a Dietitian can help.

Not following a gluten free diet can lead to complications later on such as Osteoporosis from poor Calcium absorption.

If you have been newly diagnosed with Coeliac Disease or you think you are intolerant to Gluten, speak to one of our dietitians and we can provide guidance on what to do to help.
